Flying Licence Insurance


Flying License Insurance is probably the most important cover that an airline pilot can have. Most pilots are only too aware of how relatively insignificant health problems, which would not stop a desk-based employee working, can result in the loss of your medical. 

Whilst critical illness policies are available, we have found that they have gaps in their cover which mean that they may not pay out if your licence is suspended. Over the years Flying Licence Insurance has evolved to meet the changing needs of aircrew.

There are two types of cover, one offering a lump sum if your Licence is lost permanently and the other one offering monthly benefits if your Licence is either suspended temporarily or permanently. You can choose either cover or a combination of the two. For most pilots a mix of both types of benefit will probably be the best option, using the lump sum to pay off debts such as mortgages or loans, and then use the monthly benefits to give you both short and long term cover.

For monthly benefits there is a choice of benefit periods, 24, 36, 48 or 60 months, dependent on your preference/requirements. Additionally you can choose when you would like these benefits to commence (i.e. how long you have to be unfit before qualifying for payments) by selecting from the following waiting/deferment periods; 60,90, 180, 365 days or 18 months, which enables you to more readily match the cessation of benefits payable by your employer.

You are eligible to take out cover if you are aged over 18 and under 60 years of age; under 55 years of age for lump sum cover. 

If your permanent place of residence is outside of the UK, please contact us prior to applying as there are some countries where cover cannot be provided.

How to apply
